what I am in pursuit of is the truth. it's not some high falluting esoteric word. it is quite tangible. do you know that moment when a person pushes himself to the limit, that it is already pure genius. that for me is truth. i see it all the time in movies, sometimes in sports, books, magazine articles. it is life at full extension. the glory of god is man fully alive. and for me that is the meaning of life. at least as far as we can prove. universal transendence? bah. universal love is good enough for me. Jesus Christ said we are already all saved. And so what else is there to worry about. Now you just have to choose your path. I have found love. Now I have to find glory. But I won't really call it glory, i'll call it life fully alive.

I know this is probably the worst time to make an entry like this

but Rene Cayetano passed away today.

I don't think this was a great loss for the Philippines. He did not live his life trying to make this country a better place. He reminds me of Estelito Mendoza and Frank Drilon. The former, well he defended Erap, Yak. The latter, well he hasn't made any real contribution yet to this country. Though all the the senators who voted for the opening of the envelope we're heroes, and all those who voted against it, are scum, fucking scum. words can not express how much I hate those who voted against the opening of the envelope.

anyway, someone like Companero Cayetano probably voted for the opening of the envelope, coz he knew it would get him in good with the Gloria government. Maybe good does prevail in the country after all, whether it was for self-interest or not. it's nice to know that some politicians still know that siding with the common good, is still in their best personal interest.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Philippines President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo held talks with President Bush on Monday and was later the guest of honor at a state dinner. The two leaders discussed the war on terror. Arroyo talked with CNN's Wolf Blitzer about al Qaeda-linked militant group, Abu Sayyaf, that is operating in the Philippines, and about the threat of international terrorism.

BLITZER: Thanks very much, madam president, for being with us. How much of a problem is this terror threat to you in the Philippines, specifically from Abu Sayyaf, this group associated with al Qaeda?

ARROYO: When September 11 happened, we had already been contending with a terrorist threat of Abu Sayyaf.

Now Abu Sayyaf has lost their last hostages because the last two hostages escaped from their clutches while their guards were sleeping and it was raining hard, so they could not chase after them with footprints. So I would say that this is a threat that has lost a lot of its clout.

Nonetheless, we have seen from the alert that it's happening now here in the United States. While there's been much progress on terrorism, there's still much work to do, and it is very important that the countries work together in order to address this threat together.

BLITZER: Madam president, is al Qaeda making a comeback right now? How significant of a threat is this terror organization, not only to you and your people in the Philippines, but around the world, including here in the United States?

ARROYO: What I understand is that al Qaeda is only half as strong as it used to be.

Nonetheless, if that one-half is still there, then the work is not yet over. I believe that al Qaeda is on a strategic retreat, and that is a tactical offense.

BLITZER: When you say strategic retreat, they're waiting, they're trying to regroup, but they will resurface with a vengeance? Is that what you're suggesting?

ARROYO: They're on a strategic defensive. In other words, they have a strategic setback, so they're going on a tactical offensive. It is -- it's like the death throes of somebody who is defeated or it is like a crab who's cornered, and therefore it's making its last brave stand. ...

Again, I repeat, while the threat or the strength has declined, it is now on a tactical offense to make up for strategic losses.

BLITZER: What can U.S. allies like the Philippines do together with the United States to significantly reduce, if not eliminate, this threat from international terrorism?

ARROYO: Because terrorism is now a transnational phenomenon, it is important that we also approach it in a transnational manner, and the most important way is to exchange information and intelligence and also to be able to cut the networks of the terrorist cells wherever they may be found. So this is very important.

The fight against terrorism is not conventional warfare. It is not so much moving troops all over the place. It is really a fight of intelligence and copying the networks.

BLITZER: The Abu Sayyaf terrorists in the Philippines, they've taken out their vengeance mostly against Philippine target, other targets, but not U.S. targets. Would they, together with al Qaeda, based on the intelligence that you have, go after U.S. targets in the Philippines?

ARROYO: If they could, perhaps, but what we've done is that we have -- we have brought them to a very defensive posture.

What we have done is that we are actively seeking them out and rooting them out from their terrorist lairs. So even tactically now, they are on the defensive because the Philippine military is in a strong offensive.

BLITZER: There was some controversy over how much of a role the U.S. military should play in the Philippines in fighting together, with your military, these terrorists. Have you and President Bush worked out an acceptable arrangement, acceptable to your country as well as to the Pentagon?

ARROYO: What President Bush said yesterday in his press conference is America will help the Philippines upon my request and in the manner in which I want it to be done in accordance with our constitution.

Now our technical people will be defining the limits of our constitution in accordance with the language that this is also known and used by the Pentagon authorities. So this is where we are now. It's a work in progress.

BLITZER: So basically, so far, right now you can have joint training exercises. They can serve as sort of advisers, but you're not going to let U.S. military forces actually go out there and fight and launch offensive mission against terrorists? Is that where it stands right now?

ARROYO: That's right, because in any case, when you're fighting a transnational threat like terrorism, the best tool that we should help one another with is the tool of intelligence and exchange of information.

BLITZER: What's next on the front? What's the most important thing that you and the United States, other allies, can do right now to defeat this threat?

ARROYO: We cannot underestimate the importance of exchanging information and intelligence and also try to cut off the money trail from one terrorist cell to another across borders.

BLITZER: The money trail is still flowing to Osama bin Laden and al Qaeda? Is that what you're suggesting?

ARROYO: What I'm saying is that there is still movement of money from across borders, and this is what -- what makes these -- this makes the threat of terrorism a transnational threat. That's the connection among the cells. And therefore, that has to be stopped and interdicted.

i was watching fox news today

and they interviewed this guy.

and they kept on asking him, are you mad at these anti-war protesters, don't you want to kick their butts, etc. etc. okay maybe they didn't say the latter, but no matter how they tried to phrase the question, the gist of his response was, people have a right to express their opinion, and this is exactly what they are fighting for in Iraq. Take that Fox News! You guys, suck. Fine, it's useful to watch you guys when we want to find out about which little girl was kidnapped or which high school student went berserk, but when it comes to global politics, you guys suck. You guys are jingoistic and are yellow journalists. Rupert Murdoch obviously idolizes William Randolph Hearst, and for that, he is a fool. before anyone comes on over and wonders why i support ping lacson, let me make it clear, i don't necessarily support ping as president but as a person. let me explain...

before I was afraid of the police, but when ping lacson became police chief, i felt safe again with police presence. they had better uniforms, lost weight, and gained a certain degree of respectability. even under edbane now they continue to have that respect.

the corynians and the catholic church better be careful about the enemies they choose. just because you support erap, it doesn't make you bad all the time, and just because you support cory, it doesn't make you good all the time.

during erap's regime, people kept on making fun of miriam till she finally flipped. miriam was on our side once, but all the black propaganda pushed her over the edge. don't do the same for ping.

in the coming presidential elections, i'll probably vote and support gloria for continuity. i hope roco runs for gloria's vp, so that he won't split the vote. the opposition will probably field ping. all i know is any of the three would be better than FPJ.

i was really pissed earlier, when i heard about the bombings, coz i thought it was by the al qaeda. and if it was, i really hope we'd accept the help of the USS Essex, it's major general and its 1500 troops with hundreds of green berets. but it is not turning out to be al qaeda. it seems to be just a bunch of cowardly amateurs. nonetheless, i still think we should accept the help of the USS Essex to bring peace to Mindanao.

Coz all we are going to do is destroy infrastructure, that will take time to re-build.
If we wait for Iraq to reform from within, it will take longer, and more people may suffer and die. but it will be less destructive.
in a war, infrastructure will be destroyed and people will die.
in reform, people may suffer and die, but also they may not.

I just bought a copy of People Asia recently, the one with Bayani Fernando on the front to find out if this guy is the real deal. And here is my gut assesment of the guy. Bayani Fernando is the kind of guy, if he were president, you wouldn't have to worry about the country. It would be in good hands. I don't think he would be visionary. But sometimes a visionary president might not be a good idea, we can leave the visions to the artists and the entrepreneurs. One thing I would have to point out though is that Marikina isn't a hard city to manage, it is not as thickly populated or as difficult, as say, Manila. But I wish him all the best in the running of the MMDA. And if he does a good job, shi-yet, he could be president.

Also featured in the same issue of People Asia is Ed Angara. And I must say that Edong is impressive, too. Too bad he is on the "other" side.

There is also an article on Tessie Aquino. Which I am still working up the gumption to read. Gawd, she sucks.

Joey's State of the Nation Address

And the state of the nation is sound.
After more than a year of bickering, and three years of a bad presidency prior to that
the state of the nation is sound.

Things have been looking up.
We've had peace and quiet for a long time.

The Abu Sayyaf have been captured or killed.

The Americans have been hanging around for awhile, and will hopefully leave soon

The economy is stabilizing. The peso is stabilizing. We are looking good.

Dare I say it... we are looking as good as we were after Edsa 2.

And so there is nowhere to go but up, and we are ready.

so let's begin with controversy. i support panfilo "ping" lacson. there are those who believe that ping lacson is evil. there are those who believe that he must be destroyed. i don't believe so. i believe ping to be a good man. and he has serve and could continue to serve this country well. the weakness of ping lacson is that he serves Erap Estrada. If he just dumps Estrada and goes out on his own, i believe more will come to his employ. i would even venture to say that i wouldn't mind ping lacson as president in 2004. of course there could be better, but he wouldn't be bad. i of course would prefer manny villar or juan flavier as president in 2004, though gloria would be fine.

what i really do want for this country though is stability. i don't want anymore wars. anymore coups. just economic development. which is why i am perfectly satisfied with gloria being president till 2010. as long as she just lets us do our stuff.
